Bringing Safe Water Closer to Communities in Nebbi

Nebbi District, Uganda — Access to safe and reliable water is changing for communities in Nebbi District, where Spice of Life is coordinating a US$103,828 water project aimed at providing hand-pump boreholes to communities across the district.

Funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and District 104D, Norway, through Lions Aid Norway, the project is delivering 15 hand-pump boreholes to 15 communities.

So far, 10 boreholes have been successfully drilled and installed, and all are currently functional. For the communities benefiting from the project, the new water sources provide a more reliable alternative to unsafe or distant water sources.

The project is now preparing to enter its next phase, with plans to drill and install the remaining five boreholes.

Local partnerships driving the project

The success of the Nebbi Water Project depends on strong collaboration with local partners. The Lions Club of Nebbi and Nebbi District Local Government are supporting the project by identifying beneficiary communities and monitoring the boreholes after installation.

This local involvement is intended to ensure that the water points are established where they are most needed and that communities remain engaged in maintaining them.

Part of a wider water initiative

The Nebbi project is part of the broader Lions Aid Norway and Spice of Life Water Initiative, a long-running effort to expand access to safe water in communities across Uganda.

Through the initiative, more than 170 boreholes have been delivered to date, bringing safe water closer to thousands of people in different parts of the country.

As the remaining five boreholes are prepared for drilling in Nebbi, the project represents another step in the continuing effort to improve access to safe water and support healthier, more resilient communities across Uganda.
